Automation Engineer
InCentrik is seeking a qualified candidate to join our Baton Rouge, LA and New Orleans, LA team as an Automation Engineer. This hybrid position will ensure successful completion of company and client objectives at the project level. They will be responsible for the design, development, optimization, installation, and fulfillment of processes and systems utilized during project execution.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and troubleshoot industrial control systems.
- Interpret and develop a controls system via customer provided P&IDs (Piping & Instrumental Diagrams).
- Program and troubleshoot PLC, HMI & DCS applications for automated process equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance, including software updates and patches.
- Write, test, debug code that controls and monitors automated processes.
- Models, tests, and measures output and data to analyze performance or quality issues and develop solutions.
- Prepare specification documentation for operation and quality assurance.
- Collaborates with and receives direction from assigned CDM (Customer Delivery Manager) and with on-site customer employees and vendors.
- Performs other duties as required.

Skills & Abilities
- A deep understanding of control systems, PLC programming, HMI design, and other automation technologies.
- The ability to analyze complex issues in control systems, formulate effective solutions, and make informed decisions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams to ensure a seamless integration of control systems.
- The ability to adapt to emerging technologies and stay updated on industry trends in industrial automation.
- Awareness of safety and regulatory standards in the industrial sector to ensure control systems comply with established guidelines.
- Fluent in reading and comprehending P&IDs, wire schematics and computer-aided design (CAD) drawings.
- Proficient in programming languages and logic associated with Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Honeywell, Emerson (GE), etc.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Work with customers to develop and implement data and information systems that collect, store, transfer, and display information from a manufacturing or control system.
Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Process Engineering, or related field.
- Requires four to seven years’ related experience or a combination of experience and equivalent education.
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP) or ISA Certified Control System Technician (CCST) preferred.
- Observe and analyze current methods and processes and recommend opportunities for improvement that would simplify, standardize, improve quality, and/or reduce cost.
- Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box).
- Must possess or have the means to apply for a Transportation Security Administration card (TWIC) within the first 30 days of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, valid liability insurance and a clean driving record.
- Must be fluent in English, both verbal and written.

Environmental Requirements
- Work is to be performed in a private, home office setting, free from safety hazards and distractions.
- Home internet speeds of a minimum of 25MB down/3MB up. 50MB down/5MB up preferred.
- Applicants must reside within 60 miles from New Orleans, LA or Baton Rouge, LA.
- Familiar and comfortable with field work that is onsite at customer locations.
- Comply with applicable PPE and manufacturing safety protocol required during customer visits.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 25%, including day trips and overnight stays for several days.
- Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to work as needed after-hours, during weekends, and during holidays.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds regularly.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, crawl, walk, push, pull and lift up to 20 pounds for an extended period of time.
- May be required to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds assisted.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
- Answer and return phone calls.
